Autism Information

Autism is a brain development disorder that begins when a child is very young, less than three years old. Autism affects three critical areas of personal development. The three areas are communication, social interaction, and creative or imaginative play.

Autism affects various parts of the brain and it is not understood how this occurs. Early in a child's life (the first year or two) parents will begin to notice signs of a development disorder. If intervention is started early enough it may help children gain some social skills and self-care. It is estimated that up to 0.6% of children have autism. Of those 0.6% there are three to four times more boys than girls.

Treatment for Autism has increased greatly but there is still no cure for Autism.
