Tick-borne diseases

Tick-borne diseases are diseases that are transmitted by ticks. As tick population continues to grow so do the cases of tick-borne diseases. It is important for health professionals to be able to identify the various tick-borne diseases. The following is a list of the major tick-borne illnesses.

Lyme disease - Found worldwide wherever deer ticks exist.
Tick-borne meningoencephalitis - Found in Europe and Northern Asia
Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever - Found in Brazil
Colorado Tick Fever - Found in western United States
Tick paralysis - Found in eastern United States
Relapsing Fever - Found in western United States
Babesiosis - Found in northwestern United States
Ehrlichiosis anaplasmosis - Found in southern United States
Tularemia - Found throughout the United States.
Cytauxzoonosis - Found in southeast United States

Laboratory tests are not able to diagnosis tick-borne disease reliably. Because of their severity antibiotics are often administered on a clinical diagnosis.
